Research: Establishing shot

This establishing shot shows the lead singer (Matthew Healy) and a rectangle which is a significant part of the image for The 1975, as it is something that they came up with for their bands symbol. The shot is also in black and white which is another identification of the bands image.
This establishing shot is from the song Fireflies by Owlcity, it is of the singer turning on what appears to be a keyboard and this is when the song starts. I do like how this links together and a close up is used so we can clearly see that this is what is trying to be shown.
This establishing shot shows again the lead singer of The 1975 (Matthew Healy) who is with a girl who appears to be his girlfriend in this video. The medium shot allows us to identify this and shows that the video itself is based around them.
This shot came straight after the medium close up of the two characters in the video. It tells us the name of the same and who it is by, I like how this is centre frame and is clear and stands out. This is something I may consider using with my own video as I think that it really fits well with the song.

Research: Analysis of a music video with the genre I am considering making

Music video: Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

Establishing shot: The establishing shot (low angle shot) of a girl who is walking through woodlands. The girl isn't part of the group so this shot could indicate that the video is about her. This location is something I like and want to use something similar for my music video. It is quite a low angle making her look distant.

At the end of the first build up there is an extreme close up of the girl which then cuts onto performance when the beat drops. I like the way this is edited and using close up shots really captures an imagine on the characters emotions, which I want to achieve in my music video.
This next shots shows what the video is about. It is a high angle shot which allows the image to show everything that is happening. It could also represent the way that the people watching the puppets fight have more power over them. The mise en scene is detailed. The lighting focuses on the arena and the costumes are Western.
This shot shows one of the numerous times the video cuts onto performance. I like the location of where the singer is performing and the use of the drum which is in time with the beat of the song, it reflects feeling from the singer onto the viewer. This links to Goodwin and editing, visuals to match lyrics and beat. The lighting is low key and the smoke and wall seems urban.

Even though these next two shots has use of imagination, as puppets is something unique and different to use in a music video; there is also a traditional theory with there being a 'good guy' and a 'bad guy'. Through the video the purple puppet seems to display an image of being the 'bad guy' who defeats the other puppets.
With the pink puppet then defeating the purple puppet and everyone else involved. The pink is quite feminine and this is post modern. The feminine bear in pink defeats the male aggressor who could be seen as the traditional [Propp] villain.
These last two shots show vulnerability as the person who was in charge has now been defeated and this is shown with a high angle shot looking down on him. This breaks conventions as throughout the video he is dominant however at the end he is defeated. His facial expression and gesture is angry, defiant and stereotypical for a masculine villain.
This then cuts to a low angle shot of the puppets closing on him. I like this idea because it shows an ending of a story which is what I want in my music video.
